While a lot of people might have been watching the VMA‘s last night, I wasn’t. I figured I could just surf the best bits Monday morning. You see, I am not a big MTV fan these days. I haven’t been for a long time, you’d have to go all the way back to when they actually played music videos. When I heard that MTV had grabbed up the television rights to Terry BrooksShannara series I groaned inside, or maybe my stomach just turned over. At the absolute best I figured we might get something along the quality level of Legend of the Seeker. Not that Legend of the Seeker wasn’t some pretty decent fantasy television, but it wasn’t Game of Thrones either. So waking up this morning to this trailer for producer Jon Favreau‘s The Shannara Chronicles is a shoot in the arm for all my thoughts on MTV.Shannara-Chronicles

Seeing fan favorite Manu Bennett didn’t hurt either. I’ve been a fan since Spartacus and loved his work on Arrow. Both those fan bases should be willing to give The Shannara Chronicles a try just to see Bennett do his thing. Check out the trailer below and then let’s discuss.

Looked pretty interesting didn’t it? The production values are spot on for television these days and look fantastic. The background scenery certainly sets the mood and those wide sweeping shots remind me of LOTR. which many will make many fans silently chuckle. You see a lot of people, rightly or wrongly, accuse Brooks of ripping of The Lord of the Rings. You can argue about it in the comments section, that’s all I have to say about that.

Here’s what MTV has posted about the series:

The Shannara Chronicles’ is a new TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

Based on that trailer, will you be checking out this series?
