The second season of Gotham hits television screens September 21st, and now we’ve got a clip from the upcoming season’s episode Damned If You Do. It’s a very interesting scene with a number of things to discuss.
First thing that jumped out at me was the mixing of the male and female prisoners. Of course that seems odd, and seems to try to cover the thought about why would you put all those crazy, dangerous people together in one place, let along mix the sexes. Let’s drop that though, because the interaction between Barbara (Erin Richards) and Jerome Valeksa (Cameron Monaghan) is delightful. If Jerome isn’t turning into the Joker right in front of our eyes then he must be the greatest misdirection in television history.
Take a look and then let’s discuss it.
I had a thought flutter into my head after I watched that I just can’t shake. The chemistry between those two is fantastic. With the changes to Barbara’s story line from the comic, could she be the new Harley Quinn in the Gotham Universe? We already know she is nuts to the extreme and I don’t see her suddenly regaining her sanity and hooking back up with Gordon. That’s not gonna happen, so what do they do with her character?
Hook her up with the Joker. It doesn’t even have to be romantic, just a common love of causing mayhem and sticking it to Gordon. Now I am not saying that Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, M.D. won’t eventually become the Harley Quinn we all know and love, but what if Barbara is Harley Quinn 1.0 and Quinzel is Harley 2.0, created by the Joker after Barbara suffers an untimely demise? Perhaps even at the hands of Joker himself?
What do you think? Is it a possibility?
