One of the coolest moments in the The Flash season finale, and there were a lot of them, was the moment that the helmet of Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick was suddenly spit out of a wormhole. You could say that it opened up a whole new world to the The Flash. Huh? Okay, now that that’s out my system, let’s talk about Jay Garrick. He will be played Masters of Sex’s Teddy Sears when the second season launches in a few weeks time, and is one of numerous speedsters that will be introduced on the show from Flash lore this year. But in cast you forgot that the elder Flash is coming, the CW‘s got a reminder for you.
In addition to Sears as Garrick, The Flash (played of course by Grant Gustin) will be joined by Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) and Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale). We also know that the season’s big bad will be Professor Zoom, another evil speedster who will arrive in Central City to make life miserable for Flash and the gang. Yesterday, it was announced that the voice of Professor Zoom will be provided by no less than Tony Todd, and that Zoom’s first appearance will be in the season’s second episode, “The Flash of Two Worlds.”
“Last year, with the Reverse-Flash, we just modulated Tom Cavanagh’s voice, and this year we wanted to do something a little bit different,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to Variety. “Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask. Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, and no one does demon-voice better than Tony Todd.”
The Flash season 2 will premiere on Tuesday October 6 at 8 pm on the CW.
