Ever since Mark Ruffalo took over the reigns as The Hulk, I’ve grown to become been a big fan of the character. Don’t get me wrong. Eric Bana and Edward Norton were fine versions of the big green machine, but it’s Ruffalo’s blandness as Dr. Banner that won me over. With that, I have to say I’m was a little disappointed to find out that he won’t be in the latest installment of the Captain America franchise.
According to a recent report that was roughly translated from Italian, here is what Ruffalo had to say about his absence from Civil War,
“Because he’s still missing, and it’s unknown where he is. I thought that I would be in the film, but in the end they evidently believed that the reveal of what happened to the Hulk was too big, and Marvel wants to save that information for later. My character had been in the script, but then he got removed. Who knows, maybe the Hulk will never return. They want to keep the revelation of what happened to him a secret, because it’s something really big.”
That makes sense. The last thing I’d want is for him to show up out of no where and say, “I’m here!” and not explain why. They made it a big point that he had left at the end of the last Avengers movie. He wanted to be left alone. Maybe he was still hurt because of the whole Black Widow thing. I don’t really know. However, the folks over at Marvel Studios know, and it seems that the reason is big enough to make a new movie out of or put into a movie where there is more time. Let’s face it, I don’t think Civil War will have time to tell other stories besides the main one.
The question now is when will see the big guy again? If the timeline holds true, it looks like we won’t see The Hulk until the next Avengers movie when they start taking on Thanos. That’s not slated until 2018. I guess there’s no better time than that because you’re going to need him. Prior to that, the movies that are slated for release (in order of release date) are Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnorak, and then Black Panther. Of course, I could always be wrong which would mean he would could make a cameo in on of these movies, but which one? If he did have to show up in one of them, my guess is that it would be in the next Thor movie.
So what do you think? Do you think The Hulk is somewhere in the world sulking? If so, when do you make your comeback? I know this, if I knew I had a chance with the Black Widow but couldn’t do anything about it, I’d probably be in isolation too.
