Nerds, geeks, super-fans – whatever you’d like to call us, one thing is for sure: there’s going to be a lot of cool stuff for genre fans to check out on TV this Fall. Information on most of the new (and returning) projects has been moderately available, and it’s always nice when the studios themselves offer up direct access for the fans. In advance of the new Supergirl TV series coming to prime-time on CBS this Fall, the network has released a 3-minute behind-the-scenes featurette designed to give fans some advance info on the new caped crusader in town.
The show will follow the tale of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), aka Kara Zor-El, aka Superman’s cousin from the planet Krypton, who comes to Earth after escaping the destruction of her home planet. After initially hiding her special abilities, she finally decides to join her cousin in acting as a force for good on Earth, thus becoming a full-fledged superhero. No specific word yet on any potential planned crossovers with Henry Cavill as Superman, either on the small screen or with Benoist making a cameo in any upcoming DC films.
In addition to Benoist, the show features a fair amount of recognizable names, on both the cast and character sides: Mehcad Brooks as James “Jimmy” Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane, Iddo Goldberg as Red Tornado, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, Dean Cain as Jeremiah Danvers, and Helen Slater as Eliza Danvers.
