By now, the post-credits scene, or stinger, or epilogue if you like, is now a well worn trope of Marvel Studios movies. So much so that people were surprised and disappointed that they didn’t have to sit through the credits of Avengers: Age of Ultron to get a little extra something something. The trend’s even extended to the X-Men movies, which are produced by Twentieth Century Fox but are still Marvel characters, so that counts I guess. But will the trend now be extended to another Disney property? Will their be a post-credits scene with Star Wars: The Force Awakens? The rumor of the day says, “Yes.”

According to the Schmoes Know Movie Show, and as told to them by a “trusted source,” The Force Awakens will include a post-credits scene that’s either a tease or a scene for the following Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Gareth Edwards film about a group of Rebels who steal the plans for the original Death Star is due in theaters for Christmas 2016. Unless a trailer comes out in advanced, it would be the first footage from Rogue One released, and it would be the second bit of video concerning the film after the teaser shown to fans at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year.

If it does end up that there’s a post-credits scene it will be a huge departure for the Star Wars movies because in the past when the credits begin, that’s the end even though sequels have been inevitable since the very first Star Wars movie. It would also be a departure in that Star Wars is not a superhero movie, and also, the post-credits typically tease the future of the storyline, and Rogue One is a trip back to the past. Of course, a tease for Episode VIII may be out of the question, but there are rumors to suggest that shooting on Episode VIII may start this fall, so who knows?

Likely, we probably won’t know for sure whether this rumor is true or false until The Force Awakens is released on December 18.
