Rumors reguarding Wesley Snipes possibly reprising his iconic Blade role and returning to the big screen for Marvel have been have been making the rounds as of late. Before this, the rumor was that if Marvel did indeed move forward with a Blade project, it would be centered around Blade’s daughter: Fallon Grey. Snipes has been dropping some hints, however, that you really never know when it comes to Marvel- and nothing should be ruled out. Here are the details he’s shared about the discussions he’s been having with Marvel on the subject.
In a recent interview The Huffington Post, Snipes said this about his talks with Marvel Studios:
“There’s always a possibility, you know. It’s in Marvel’s hands. They’re controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it.”
Along with the value, there’s also the willingness on Snipes’ part. He made sure to mention that he is still physically fit and ready to go if and when Marvel makes their decision.
“I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to it yet.”
The topic then switched to the possibility of Blade interacting with the rest of the MCU, on which Snipes had these thoughts:
“That would be interesting. I mean, I know it’s in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He’s got to bite somebody. I don’t know who he’s going to bite.”
Blade interacting with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would definitely be interesting! It could be tricky, timing wise, as we don’t know which heroes will be around at the time the movie would be made (which seems like it would be sometime around Phase 4). Other rumors, however, have suggested that Blade could appear in Phase 2 of Marvel’s Netflix series plan, which would mesh much better chronologically.
It’s pretty safe to say that, while a new Blade film would be awesome, fans are having a tough time seeing how it would tie in with the MCU. Maybe as a standalone, but introducing vampires into the mix? On the other hand, Doctor Strange will be introducing the concept of magic when he makes his debut, so maybe vampires aren’t too far of a jump. What are your thoughts?
