While just about every other Star Wars fan was rushing about trying to get the latest action figures and toys that came out earlier this month on Force Friday, there were also a number of new Star Wars books hitting store shelves and digital downloads. These books all fall under the umbrella of Journey to The Force Awakens, a series of at least twenty book that will cover what happened after the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi and J.J. Abrams new Star Wars film Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. Two of these books, Smuggler’s Run: A Han Solo Adventure and The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure have been given the added fun of being animated and you can check them out below. Now these are kids books, aimed at middle school readers and are much shorter than the adult books in the series, but there’s still plenty of fun stuff in there for Star Wars fans, perhaps even some insights into how and why our beloved Star Wars characters end up the way they are in The Force Awakens.
The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure:
Luke Skywalker returns for an all-new adventure in this thrilling upper middle grade novel. Set between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the story finds Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, and R2-D2 stranded on a mysterious planet, and explores a dangerous duel between Luke and a strange new villain.
Hmm, Luke searching for abandoned Jedi temples is interesting, what is he looking for and what surprises might he find? Could he still be looking for something when we find him 30 years later? Sarco Plank looks interesting and could be a character searching for the same thing Luke is. It seems he isn’t exactly the ally Luke thinks he might be.
Smuggler’s Run: A Han Solo Adventure:
Han Solo and Chewbacca the Wookiee team-up for an all-new adventure in this thrilling upper middle grade novel. Set between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the story follows everyone’s favorite pair of smugglers as they fly the Millennium Falcon on a top-secret mission for the Rebellion.
Now that is all Han Solo. Nothing but action and getting into and out of Imperial trouble. There’s sure to be more in the book though, along with other more character developing things. That comment about Solo doing something insanely suicidal to get away is perfect.
If these two animated videos have peaked your interest int he books, both are available on Amazon in book and digital Kindle form along with Aftermath, Lost Stars, and Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure.
