The X-Files are coming back to Fox later this season, so you can expect posts like this over the next couple of months as we get these little teases, and while this isn’t the first, this is your first substantive look at what’s in store for the new, further adventures of Mulder and Scully. So does that mean you get some insight into the plot here? Of course not, don’t be ridiculous. What it does establish though is that it may have been 12 years since the last time Mulder and Scully peered into the X-Files, but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost the suspicion or paranoia.
Actually, there’s a lot here to unpack from the total minute and 15-second long trailer that was aired on Fox in two parts during last night’s episodes of Gotham and Minority Report. If you happened to be doing other things last night, you can watch the two-part teaser below:
Among the “blink and you’ll miss them” moments: the first appearance of Joel McHale as a conservative pundit that gets Mulder back in the game, a bearded Assistant Director Skinner – and seriously no promotion for the Skin-man in the last 12 years? – played by Mitch Pileggi, a look at the vacated X-Files office in the basement of the Hoover building, a flashback(?) to some kind of UFO crash, and a look at the hand and voice of William B. Davis as Cancer Man, whose survival of getting blowin’ the hell up at the end of the original series is a question that should be answered immediately.
As to the other details, what was Scully doing in a hospital and looking as though she was more patient than doctor? Is she sick again? Actually Gillian Anderson teased earlier this month at Fan Expo Canada that the topic of Scully’s abduction, and subsequent cancer, would be revisited. As for David Duchovny‘s Mulder, sounds like he’s as paranoid as ever and worried about the surveillance state, but he’s gonna need Scully’s help to once again plumb the depths of the supernatural. Sounds like good watching. Speaking of which….
