It can sometimes be surprising how a character from a book or movie can sneak up on you and suddenly become very important. I certainly never thought the little house elf Dobby would end up ripping my heart from my chest, leaving me quietly sobbing, after all I only wanted to read a couple of chapters before bed. Now fans in London are showing their support for Dobby at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in the most Harry Potterish way possible.
Remember that Dobby was the house elf of the Malfoy family, who treated Dobby dreadfully and wasn’t about to let him go. Dobby explained the rules to Harry.
“This, sir?” said Dobby, plucking at the pillowcase. “‘Tis a mark of the house-elf’s enslavement, sir. Dobby can only be freed if his masters present him with clothes, sir. The family is careful not to pass Dobby even a sock, sir, for then he would be free to leave their house forever.”
Then Harry figured out a way to do something wonderful for Dobby by tricking Malfoy senior by slipping a sock into Tom Riddle’s ruined diary.
Now fans are bringing socks to the Dobby exhibit to free Dobby.

Damn, that one hits you right in the feels. Poor loyal Dobby. I’m gonna be wrecked the rest of the afternoon.
