After watching him portray Walter White on AMC’s Breaking Bad, there’s no doubt that Bryan Cranston can pull off a convincing villain-type character. Cranston seamlessly took his character from meek family man to a very intimidating “one who knocks”, which, along with his role of LBJ in the Broadway play All the Way, earned him several awards. His upcoming performance as screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Trumbo may even garner him some Oscar gold this year. Cranston has also expressed interest in participating in larger films as well, and he recently revealed to The UK’s Metro what kind of role is on the top of his wish list: a Marvel super-villain.
“You know what I’d like to do? I’d like to do some big superhero villain in some Marvel classic.”
The discussion doesn’t stop there, though. Cranston knows exactly what villain he’d like to play: his own.
“Create one from scratch… I don’t know what I would do but it would be nasty.”
While a Cranston-inspired villain could obviously prove for some extremely interesting entertaining storylines, that’s not exactly the most feasible idea. Marvel has proven in Iron Man 3 that they’re into the idea of changing up villain origins, creating a whole new one is a different story.
After a fan-started rumor that Cranston could be playing Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, and now after this statement, it sounds like almost a done deal that Cranston will be popping up in the MCU sooner or later. We’ll just have to see which side of Marvel wins out- the lenient or the non-collaborative.
Coming back to Cranston, there’s no doubt that he’s versatile and charismatic enough to make a grade-A villain. Who could you see him as?
