By now, everyone should know what the X-Men are all about: they’re mutants born with remarkable and unusual abilities, sowrn to protect a world that fears and hates them. Next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse will be the ninth X-Men film in the series, the third in the so-called First Class trilogy, so we must all surely be familiar with the world. Besides, the plot’s right there in the title, “Apocalypse,” the ancient bad guy who will be played by Oscar Isaac in the film. Suppose though that’s not good enough. Suppose that you want to know more, but not too much. Something with names, but maybe not too many names. Well good news for you then.
In announcing a cross-promotion between 20th Century Fox and M&M’s, the press release also included what turned out to be the offical synopsis for Apocalypse. Admittedly, it tells us nothing that we didn’t already know about the film, and there’s nothing spoiler-y in there either, but now you know with absolute certainty, what this film will be about. And that is…
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
It also came with this cute little mock-up of M&M Magneto and M&M Storm.
Remember, X-Men: Apocalypse will be in theaters everywhere on May 27, 2016.
