Rumor Alert: ‘Inhumans’ Movie Cancelled

Inhumans
Well, it seems that things are getting a bit heated behind the scenes over at Marvel. According to the latest internet rumors, the Inhumans movie (which was slated for 2019) has been cancelled. So what gives? To understand what’s going on, you’d have to know about the relationship between Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter.  A while back, we reported about the small divorce between Feige and Perlmutter. This separation was supposed to help relieve some of he tension inside the offices, but it seems that it didn’t help at all. For more details on this situations keep reading after the jump.

So here’s a little backstory on the relationship between Feige and Perlmutter. About a month ago Feige and Perlmutter had a bit of a separation at Marvel Studios. Feige gained tighter control over the MCU while Perlmutter remained in control of almost all things Marvel on the small screen such as Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. At the same time, Feige would no longer be reporting to Perlmutter (like he had in the past). Instead he would be reporting directly to Alan Horn, who is the chairman of Walt Disney Studios.

Now this was supposed to be a move for the better because Feige is a guy who is more invested in the quality of the movies that Marvel has produced. Perlmutter is a person who is more concerned with how much money their product would make. In the end, this is still a business. So while some may not agree with Perlmutter, he has still played an important role within Marvel. He just didn’t work well with Feige.

And now back to the original reason why you’re here. This rumor, apparently, comes from “connected sources” overheard at a New York bar. Understandably, this doesn’t sound very reliable. You have to remember, though, that New York Comic Con is going on right now, so there is some chance that there’s some validity to this rumor.

This new is a bit of a disappointment and comes at a very interesting time. Keep in mind that this is coming right off the announcement of the MCU rescheduling. Inhumans was originally supposed to come out in 2018, but had been pushed to 2019. Now it’s been “cancelled” all together. So what can fans expect out of this rumor? Well, for starters, if you’re up to date with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., then you should know that the Inhumans are playing an important role in the current story line. One thought is that this was a move pulled off by Feige to keep the MCU completely free of any influence from Perlmutter. What if it were the opposite and this was a move pulled off by Perlmutter? The latter makes more sense because the Inhumans are already a major part of Marvel Television. It just seems that this would be an easier thing to pull off by Perlmutter than by Feige.

Right now this is all speculation, and a lot of it. New York Comic Con goes on until October 11th which means there’s still plenty of time to get more info from executives from the surrounding bars. We’ll keep you informed if anymore news breaks regarding this matter.
