Gambit, the latest X-Men franchise spin-off starring Channing Tatum, has recently lost its director. No one’s throwing down their cards, though; instead, they’re signaling an SOS to The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman. Liman has never helmed a comic book property before, but was considered for Watchmen. Perhaps it’s the action-packed films like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Jumper in his resume that hint at his potential.Nothing concrete has come of the rumors yet, besides tweets and vague quotes. Deadline hinted at an “inside track” for Liman in an article:
“So while recent Hollywood chatter has Doug Liman on an inside track to direct Channing Tatum in Gambit, there’s also talk that Liman and Tom Cruise might do a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow.”
Film reporter Jeff Sneider took to Twitter to voice his convictions on the matter:
As of right now, Liman is in post-production for one film, and, as stated above, possibly pursuing an Edge of Tomorrow sequel. Only time will tell, but we’ll be keeping you updated!
