Constantine may be gone, but Constantine lives! As you may or may not know, in just a few short weeks Matt Ryan will reprise his roll as master of the occult John Constantine on the CW’s Arrow. Although his self-titled series may be over (for now?) Ryan’s portrayal of Constantine was so beloved that fans just couldn’t give him up so easily. Now, there have been a couple of guesses as to what might bring Constantine to Star
ling City, and the most obvious one has to do with the pending resssurection of a beloved heroine. It turns out, that was technically correct after all.
Arrow fans will recall that last weel Laurel (Katie Cassidy) had a very bad idea when she learned about the Lazarus Pit, and it involved her sister’s remains, some grave robbing, and a flight to Nanda Parbat. Presumably, this week’s episoed will take it from there, and that’s where we pick it up with the synopsis for episode #4.5, “Haunted,” courtesy of CBR:
“MATT RYAN REPRISES HIS ROLE AS JOHN CONSTANTINE ON ARROW — When things take a turn for the worse with Sara (guest star Caity Lotz), Oliver (Stephen Amell) calls in a favour from an old friend who deals in the mystical, John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan). John Badham directed the episode written by Brian Ford Sullivan & Oscar Balderrama.”
Interesting the suggestion that Oliver Queen and Constantine are old friends, and more than that, they’re favor friends. So when did Ollie and John’s paths cross? Will that be a question answered in the flashback? Did Constantine turn up on Lian Yu at some point? We know that Oliver is aware of the supernatural, so in this when we find out how?
Arrow star Amell once said that he would make an appearance on Constantine if NBC could find it within themselves to save the series from cancellation. Despite how that turned out, Amell had nothing but nice things to say about finally working with Ryan (courtesy of MCM Buzz):
“He is such a treat,” said the Green Arrow actor. “And a trip. He’s always saying his lines – and he’s getting ready to go on Broadway right now with Kiera Knightley, so he’s always saying those lines, too. I can’t tell if he’s having a conversation with me, or preparing. And sometimes I chime in, he’ll be like, ‘I wasn’t talking to you, mate.’”
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on the CW.
