We’re living in what is likely the peak age of reboots, remakes, rehashes, reimaginings, and every other “re” you can think of that would mean original ideas are taking a back seat to bringing old stories back to life. In the ultimate switcheroo, then, it’s always fun to see what movies made today might have been like if they had created “back in the day.” Thanks to one avid YouTuber, we can now get a glimpse at a “retro-ified” version of this year’s top-grossing movie, Jurassic World.
Amateur video editor ChiefBrodyRules brings us the unholy dino terror in all its throwback glory, “starring” an all-star lineup of Charlton Heston, Michael Caine, Raquel Welch, and Richard Pryor. Obviously, dinosaur-disaster movies are nothing new and have existed since the “B-Movie” era of the 1940s and 1950s, but this trailer does a great job of mashing up a ton of different films (over 40, according to ChiefBrodyRules) into a preview that gives us a plot line incredibly similarly-sounding to what audiences saw on screen in Jurassic World. Here’s the video for you to enjoy, and below you’ll find some info from the YouTuber about which movies were used in the trailer and how/why he made it.
Science has found a way to make extinction a thing of the past. Welcome to Jurassic World! The most advanced amusement park in the entire world. They have made living biological attractions so astounding, it has captured the imagination of the entire planet! Jurassic World, where nothing can possibly go wrong…
WHY I MADE IT:
Huge fan of the Jurassic Park series. I loved Jurassic World. It reminded me of 70s disaster movies and I thought I would try to do a “What if Jurassic World was made in the 70’s?” video. I thought it would be easy but it’s taken 17 weeks to make this video. LOL It was difficult, but I had a lot of fun making it. Shout out to Oliver Harper, Duncan Casey and Richard Jackson for inspiring some of this!
The characters are not based on anyone in the series. Just inspired by them.
Michael Caine – As head of security who has foreseen the downfall of the park.
Raquel Welch – As the Mosasaurus handler that falls in love with Michael Caine.
Richard Pryor – As a guest who helps Michael Caine to get the people out of the park.
Charlton Heston – As the scientist who brought back the dinosaurs and second in command at the park.
