Kristen Wiig Annoyed By ‘Ghostbusters’ Backlash

Kristen Wiig has never attracted such controversy in any role she has ever taken. While she’s no stranger to comedy, she’s really in the middle of a bit of funny business.

While director Paul Fieg recently fired back at critics (after a really long time, we must add), it had seemed that the actresses involved in the film’s production were keeping mum on the subject. No, she didn’t make any pseudo poly-offensive statement regarding her role in Ghostbusters, she actually said quite the opposite.

Wiig was quoted in the Los Angeles Times regarding the film itself:
“And the fact there was so much controversy because we were women was surprising to me. Some people said some really not nice things about the fact that there were women. It didn’t make me mad, it just really bummed me out. We’re really honoring those movies.”
She makes a good point, and she goes on to say:
“Why wouldn’t I want to do a Ridley Scott movie about someone stranded on Mars starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain? Aren’t we supposed to do as many things as possible and wear as many colors as we can? That’s why I like this art form.”
To break it all down, why would it matter who was representing the GBs? Why would you discriminate an actor (or group of actors) just because they want to help pay homage to one of our greatest pop culture phenomenons? Sure, no one really likes remakes, but let’s keep it civil. When the majority of the gripes of this movie’s production centers on the fact that it features an all female troupe, the criticisms steer from valid to misogynistic.
Really? People are hating it simply because of the fact that women are portraying Ghostbusters? Really? Sorry, trolls; we can’t hear you over the sound of the 19th amendment. Remember, this is coming from a bunch of bastards. Leave the caveman shit back in the dark ages.

Grow up and face the facts: No amount of whining or complaining is changing this film’s release, nerds. This level of complaining just may conjure a massive river of slime or the coming of Gozer.

Or at the very least, a lot more whiny basement dwellers.

You go, ladies.
