The Internet has been talking about a new stand alone Hulk movie ever since Mark Ruffalo‘s CGI captured Hulk appeared on theater screens and stole the spotlight in Joss Whedon‘s Avengers. Not only did the Hulk bring power and destruction, but humor as well, I’m looking at you puny god. Now that Ruffalo’s is confirmed to appear in Thor: Ragnarok, folks have been asking Ruffalo about the movie and what Banner and the Hulk might be up to.
The Huffington Post sat down with Ruffalo at the recent GQ’s The Gentlemen’s Fund Awards late last week and asked him about his upcoming appearance.
I play Dr. Bruce Banner, and occasionally I turn into a big green, mean monster. I am excited to keep coming back to this role. I see a lot of space for it to grow.
I feel like there’s a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we’ll see the two of them in a scene together. That would be cool!
I don’t want to overstay my welcome and I hope I never do. If I do, I’ll be the first one to bow out.
Banner and the Hulk in the same scene? Yeah that would be pretty damn cool. Now the question moves to if this did happen how would it work? Would it just be in the Hulk’s or Banners mind? Could the two be physically separated using Asgardian super science? It has happened in the comics a number of times both ways, mentally and physically. Then there’s the times that Banner has been able to take over while in Hulk form, Banner’s intellect in the powerful body of the Hulk.
In the top right hand of most comics there was a standard image of the character, above is the progression that took place in The Hulk comic as Banner gained mental control over the Hulk and then lost it over time.
It is interesting to speculate that since Banner has tried to stop the transformations with meditation and other emotion calming routines and hasn’t really had the breakthrough that scientist Banner might want to stop his Hulking out, that Banner might turn towards controlling the Hulk when he does transform. Turning to Thor for help might be the ticket. Asgardian science is so far advanced that it looks like magic after all.
I’s like to see the character develop past the standard we’ve seen in movies so far. Let’s let Banner have the spotlight. It would be interesting to see the two battle for control.
