I hope everyone that wasn’t watching The Walking Dead last night wasn’t spending their time on Twitter because around 9:47 pm EST the place blew up with a pretty big spoiler. What is this spoiler? Did you not watch the show? Obviously, it won’t be spoiled in this paragraph because we think of the children here at Nerd Bastards, but this article will addresses said spoiler and Dead executive producer Scott M. Gimple‘s somewhat ambiguous response to the matter. So is [SPOILER] [SPOILER], or is he, as some fans have been theorizing, [SPOILER] and well having barely escaped the [SPOILER] of [SPOILER]. Seriously, spoilers ahead.

The spoiler countdown begins in…

ZERO!

Glenn is dead! Or is he? Some say yes, and last night immediately following the episod,e Twitter was filled with lamentations about how Glenn was too good to die, and how poor Maggie will once again be faced with tragedy now having lost her entire family and her husband. But wait, further examination of evidence seems to indicate that maybe Glenn ain’t dead. (Or dead yet, as fans of the comic book Dead know.)

Then there’s this, on The Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick read a message from Gimple concerning Glenn:

Dear fans of The Walking Dead, this is a hard story to tell and when we were planning to tell, we knew our friends at the Talking Dead would be talking to you about it, and knowing you’d all be talking, and feeling and commiserating, I knew we should say something about it lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say. […] So I’ll say this – In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story.”

Adding fuel to the “Glenn’s Not Dead” campaign is the fact that Steven Yuen‘s mug wasn’t included on the “In Memorium” segment of The Talking Dead, and Yuen himself wasn’t a guest, which is usually custom when a major character becomes zombie chow. Still, Gimple’s phrasing Glenn’s future by saying that a “version” or a “piece” of the character will appear on the show in the future is odd. Is he underplaying Glenn’s survival? When we see Glenn next will be horrible deformed or missing some limbs? Some fan theories suggest that Gimple means that Maggie is pregnant.

In the meantime, fans are going back to the videotape. One’s intestines aren’t in their chest, right? Meaning that Nicholas was the one being dined on by the walkers. And did you all see what looked like somebody climbing underneath the dumpster? And for that matter, did you notice that the dumpster was sitting about a foot off the ground? Why would they do that?

I guess we’ll have to wait and see to find out Glenn’s fate. If Steven Yuen’s name is in the opening credits next week, then that will be a pretty positive sign for all those Glenn fans ready to riot. On the other hand, a just as terrible fate may be in store for Glenn if the rumors about Negan arriving on the show soon are true…

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm on AMC. What say you Bastards on the subject: Is Glenn dead? Yay or Nay?
