Time to feed the rumor mill! Le Journal de Montréal has reported that X-Men: Apocalypse is currently undergoing re-shoots. Hold your speculations now, that isn’t the rumor fodder. The re-shoots aren’t to patch together a failing film, or a sign that things aren’t going as smoothly as planned; they’re to introduce a new character into the mix. Now is when you can don your speculation caps, as you chew on this little morsel: the re-shoots are being done to incorporate Hugh Jackman. The details revealed by Le Journal de Montréal are pretty sparce, (not that we’re not grateful for them!). Director Bryan Singer and co. are returning to where the lion’s share of production was shot earlier this year: Mel’s Studio in Montreal, Quebec. Production will shoot for a few weeks, and “Hugh Jackman will be on hand.”
Concerning Jackman’s role in the film, the fortress of secrecy surrounding his involvement has made it nearly impossible for us to glean any idea what it may be/consist of. None of the set pictures or concept art feature Wolverine, so some possibilities are that his part is a small one, like a surprise cameo; or perhaps that the nature of his presence is a plot spoiler. There’s also the blatant fact that the last X-Men movie that didn’t feature Wolverine as the main character didn’t do nearly as well at the box office than most other X-Men titles.
So let’s hear those theories we know you have a’ brewin’! Did Singer decide that the film needed a little extra sass (as displayed in his gem of a cameo in the video below)? Are they just cashing in on the extra revenue they know some Wolverine face time will bring? Or could it be something boring like just tidying up some plot holes?
Here’s the X-Men: Apocalypse official synopsis:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
