Fantastic-Beasts

For all lovers of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy epic, Harry Potter, 2016 is going to be a big year for you! Not only  will Harry Potter be returning to continue the story from where it left off; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child — a play described as the eighth Harry Potter story is set to open in London next summer — but the big-screen spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be making its debut in theaters next fall. Shooting for Fantastic Beasts is already underway, in fact, but it’ll be a while before the first trailer is released.

So in the meantime, Warner Bros. has released the new official Fantastic Beasts title logo.

The logo for  Fantastic Beasts, pictured above, is a clever type-font balance between new and the old. The raised metallic lettering takes our memories back to the good ol’ Harry Potter logo, but it sets itself apart with these small beastly flourishes — most notably on the S, which looks like a serpent or dragon. They have choosen to downplay the “and Where to Find Them” part of the title, so as not to bombard the eye with a mouthful of text because Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would be a tad gargantuan.

Academy Award Winner, Eddie Redmayne,  is set to lead Fantastic Beasts as Newt Scamander, the “magizoologist” whose findings would become required reading for the  Hogwarts kids later on in the series. So just to get things straight, this film is set 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, and follows Newt on his journey to New York to discover and document magical creatures.

Other well-known actors currently joining the fray of characters for this three part film are:  Ezra MillerKatherine WaterstonAlison SudolDan FoglerColin FarrellSamantha MortonRon PerlmanJon VoightCarmen Ejogo, and Gemma Chan.

Rowling penned  the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts , and David Yates, who spearheaded the last four Harry Potter movies, is  set to direct.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives November 18, 2016. The other two films of the Fantastic Beasts series are already slated for release in 2018 and 2020.
