The first Kickboxer movie originally came out in 1989. I was only a little kid back then, but when I got older, I was able to appreciate the kind of movie that this an other Jean-Claude Van Damme movies were. From there, the movie went on to spur four more titles under the Kickboxer title. Now 2015, the sixth installment of the movie franchise, Kickboxer: Vengeance, is in the works and the first images have emerged of the stars including Van Damme and Dave Bautista.

For those of you who don’t remember, here is a quick rundown of the original Kickboxer movie:

“Kurt Sloan is the corner-man for his brother, U.S. kickboxing champion Eric Sloan. When Kurt witnesses his brother become maliciously paralyzed in the ring by Thailand champion Tong Po, Kurt vows revenge. With the help of Xian Chow, a kickboxing trainer who lives in a remote area of Thailand, Kurt trains for the fight of his life.”

Funny enough this is also the same plot for Kickboxer: Vengeance. That’s right, the newest installment in the Kickboxer legacy is actually a reboot of the franchise. However, in this case, the character Xian Chow will be replaced with another character, Master Durand, who will be played by JCVD. Bautista will be playing the movie’s main bad guy, Tong Po.

Kickboxer opened on September 8, 1989 and made $4 million during it’s opening weekend. It would then go on to gross $14 million domestically. In 1989, this was considered a success. While it didn’t make the numbers we’re used to seeing in today’s market, the movie has gone on to become a cult classic. Remember this amazing scene in the movie?

Whatever happens in this movie, here’s hoping that this incredible scene get’s recreated.

Kickboxer: Vengeance also stars Alain Moussi, Darren Shahlavi, and Georges St-Pierre. The movie is slated for release sometime in 2016.
