If you’ve been living under a rock, then chances are you didn’t know that Blizzcon 2015 is currently underway. All day long, news has been coming in and out of there like hot cakes. Some of it having to do with the new World of Warcraft movie and some it having to do with updates to their popular games like Hearthstone or Overwatch. Now you can add this piece of news to the list of great things to come out of Blizzcon 2015. It was announced earlier today that a new wing of the gaming giant, Activision Blizzard Studio, will begin adapting many of the company’s big gaming franchises to the television and big screen. The first two projects will be a Skylanders TV series and a Call of Duty movie.

Blizzcon 2015 is the annual convention for the company Blizzard Entertainment to help promote some of their famous franchises. And now they’re going to be adapting game that they made into television shows and movies. It seems that they’ve learned from others and have decided to take matters into their own hands. But who could they have possibly learned from?

According to the report, the Skylanders television show will be an animated series called, “Skylanders Academy.” The show has hired Eric Rogers (Futurama, Brickleberry) as the series showrunner. The show will also feature the voices of Justin Long as Spyro the Dragon, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks as Eruptor, and Norm McDonald as Glumshanks.

As for the Call of Duty, the company isn’t looking to make this a one-hit wonder. They’re actually looking to turn the game into a series of movies. Hopefully, they’ll consider telling the story of the Modern Warfare series. The first Call of Duty film is slated for release sometime in 2018 or 2019.

Probably the most exciting part of this news is that the Diablo and StarCraft franchises will be in the hands of the studio that created them. Both of these games tell their own stories, respectively, and both stories are epic. Can you imagine what a battle between the Nephalim and Baal would look like? Or imagine seeing a character like Kerrigan come to life on the big screen?

Nick van Dyk, former senior executive at The Walt Disney Company, will serve as the new studio’s co-president. Here’s what he had to say regarding the announcement,

“‘Activision Blizzard Studios has the unique advantage of starting with a library of world-class intellectual property that includes some of the largest franchises which have not yet been developed in film and television,’ van Dyk said. ‘Our library spans more than 30 years of global entertainment culture.'”
