There has been an awakening… of a whole ton of Star Wars The Force Awakens news. After just coming off The 6 Cool Things We Learned About The Force Awakens, there is even more revelations and pseudo spoilers abound.

In the last 48 hours, Andy Serkis has come out and shed some light on his character, the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke.  And new details regarding ‘s character Maz Kanata have emerged.
The thing about these actors, crew, or anyone from production for that matter, is they talk just enough to not spoil anything; saying just enough to generate buzz around their characters and the movie. If you want a little light shed on these mystery characters, then get your fill after the jump.

 First up is Serkis
In a new interview with EW, Serkis offered up some details about the look of the character, as well as how he’s “vulnerable” yet “powerful”:

“It’s the first time I’ve been on set not yet knowing what the character’s gonna look like. I mean, talk about secrecy! When we first started working on it, he had some rough notions of how Snoke was gonna look, but it really hadn’t been fully-formed and it almost came out of discussion and performance.”

“Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which believes his true agenda, I suppose.”

Sounds like another classic bad-guy convinced that they’re not the bad guy, have justification for their actions. As for what the character looks like. Serkis shed some light, when asked for whether or not he could have played the character using practical make-up. Serkis says it wouldn’t have been impossible:

“No, no,” the actor says. “The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]”

Well jeeze, just who the hell is this guy? Sounds like a force to be reckoned with. Intriguing is every sense of the word.

Now onto another enigmatic character…Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata. In the same interview on EW, it was confirmed, by director JJ Abrams himself, she’s the small alien who is wearing goggles on the poster (above). She also is the character who speaks the following line in the first TV spot:

“I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people. I see your eyes. I know your eyes.”

Abrams confirmed that in an interview with EW:

“That’s Maz. I had some specific ideas about how she would work and what she would do. I had this pitch about these goggles that she wore. Her eyes are an important aspect of her character, and you’ll see how it plays out.”

The director went on to reveal that Maz had a very long life before settling down in her castle, which includes “a court of misfits and miscreants.” This is where she will be found in The Force Awakens.

“Her history is that she was a pirate for a long time. She’s lived over a thousand years. She’s had this watering hole for about a century, and it’s like another bar that you’d find in a corner of the Star Wars universe.

Abrams went onto to say that Maz backstory might something explored in other Star Wars mediums (aka Star Wars Rebels, comicbooks):
“All that backstory will be forthcoming. In the movie, you don’t learn these things, but I know that these are things that are coming out in other venues.”
So there you have it, a little more info to whet your whistle.
All will be revealed when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 17th
