It’s still a couple of months until the release of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the all important linchpin to the burgeoning DC Comics Cinematic Universe currently under construction. A key component of that launch is the appearance of Wonder Woman played by Gal Gadot, and the internet’s been putting 50/50 odds on whether or not she will be able to stand out as the third leg of DC’s vaunted triad. But ready or not, Gadot is about to stand as Wonder Woman in the character’s first solo feature film. Yup, breaking news today, that after literally decades of development, Wonder Woman is going before the cameras.
First, there was this twee from Gadot herself.

And then, there was this press release from Warner Bros.
Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman feature film, the highly anticipated action adventure from director Patty Jenkins (“Monster,” AMC’s “The Killing”), starring Gal Gadot (the “Fast & Furious” movies) in the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The character will make her big screen debut this spring in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but the new film will mark her first time headlining a feature.
The film also stars Chris Pine (the “Star Trek” films) as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Danny Huston (“Clash of the Titans,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), David Thewlis (the “Harry Potter” films, “The Theory of Everything”), Ewen Bremner (“Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Snowpiercer”), Saïd Taghmaoui (“American Hustle”), Elena Anaya (“The Skin I Live In”) and Lucy Davis (“Shaun of the Dead”).
That’s quite the cast listed above, but other than Chris Pine, we don’t know who anyone is playing. And where’s Nicole Kidman? She was rumored to be up for a part in the film? Is Robin Wright, perhaps, playing Queen Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother? I guess we’ll find all that out in due course, but in the meantime, let’s all just enjoy the fact that finally there’s a Wonder Woman movie being made.
Wonder Woman will be in theaters everywhere on June 23, 2017.
