It’s official- according to a press release from Disney, production has started on Marvel’s Doctor Strange. You’ve probably already figured as much, thanks to the footage seen of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor on set, but there are some other confirmations in the press release you may not know about. Rachael McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen, and Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton were announced as the other major cast members, along with the official description of the movie and members of the crew. Read on for more details. Here’s the official Doctor Strange description:
“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
And here’s a list of the behind-the-scenes crew; you may notice a common theme among them:
Director Scott Derrickson’s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Davis, B.S.C. (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); production designer Charles Wood (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); costume designer Alexandra Byrne (Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”); editors Wyatt Smith (“Into the Woods,” Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World”) and Sabrina Plisco, ACE (“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium,” “Charlotte’s Web”); and visuals effects supervisor Stephane Ceretti (Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”).
You noticed all the Guardians of the Galaxy mentions, right? Apparently this was a strategic move on Marvel’s part. Doctor Strange is fixing to be the most, well, strange movie yet in the MCU, so recruiting most of James Gunn‘s creative team was essential to capturing (and enhancing even further) the madcap mayhem he brought us in Guardians.
Decide for yourself whether Derrickson delivers on the delusional when Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016!
