It was this time last year that we got our first look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That teaser was a minute-and-a-half long and featured only seven shots, but there was also a mysterious voiceover that we’ve since learned was spoken by Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” Now, almost exactly one year later, we get an answer as to who Snoke was talking to. It seems like we’re getting new footage by the day in 30-second or one minute increments, but for the first time, it seems like the new normal of the Dark Side is getting the spotlight in a TV ad.
Before diving into the trailer, it is Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) to whom Snoke asks if he felt the awakening, and of course Ren has. “Even you have never faced such a test. It is time,” Snoke adds. Then, what it’s time for, is to watch the First Order go full evil on the poor citizens of the galaxy, including our best look yet at the latest in weapons of mass destruction super-technology, the Starkiller.
Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) though looks like he’s ready to kick some @$$, which is a good thing because Finn (John Boyega) seems like he’s going to need some kind of pep talk before he’s ready to light up that saber and go blade to blade with Ren. “You must face them. Fight them,” says Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o) who’s definitely feeling more and more like the Yoda of this new trilogy.
Enough talk! Let’s roll the new expanded TV spot.
Is it December 18 yet? We’ll have more Force Awakens news as it becomes available.
