Turns out the road to a galaxy far, far away includes a detour to the final frontier. A trailer for the next chapter in the Star Trek reboot will be featured before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to The Hollywood Reporter. How much we’ll see of Trek in this promo is anyone’s guess, but it’s a perfect fit for the main event.
Before J.J. Abrams tackled directing duties for this new Star Wars incarnation, he directed both the 2009 remake of Star Trek and the 2013 sequel, Star Trek: Into Darkness. Although he switched from Kirk and Spock to Han and Chewie, Abrams is still producing the flick through his company Bad Robot with Justin Lin in the director’s chair.
Star Trek Beyond will focus more on the relationship between McCoy and Spock this time around, according to an interview Zachary Quinto gave The Telegraph this August.
“Those characters are so diametrically opposed that it’ll be nice to see them interacting,” he said.T
The full Enterprise crew is back for the latest installment, including Quinto, Karl Urban, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg. Idris Elba will also be featured, although his character has not yet been made public. Filming wrapped in October, but the movie’s plot has been a closely guarded secret. Apparently Abrams has learned a few things about secrecy from the hermetically sealed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Justin Lin also directed three of the Fast and Furious movies, so expect plenty of action and perhaps a few less lens flares.
Star Trek Beyond will warp into theaters on July 22, 2016.
