The first trailer and movie poster was released for Legend of Tarzan, the newest interpretation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic work by Warner Bros. There are several stars in this film, including Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Alexander Skarsgard, and Alexander Skarsgard’s abs. While we won’t see as much of Skarsgard as we did in True Blood, the trailer shows there’s still plenty of him on display for a vine-swinging good time.
This Tarzan has turned his back on the jungle, living out his life as John Clayton III, Victorian gentleman, with wife Jane at his side. He stretches his pinkie out while enjoying a good cup of tea and grudgingly takes a position as trade emissary to the Congo. As the plot thickens with the help of quintessential villain Christoph Waltz, Clayton returns to his chest-beating roots to save his loved ones and his home.
Anyone who underestimates Tarzan has a fight on his hands. “He is no normal man,” states Robbie as Jane. “He’s thought to be an evil spirit, a ghost in the trees.”
The movie appears to be action-packed, filled with amazing stunts both real and CGI. Directed by David Yates, the old-school plot feels fresh amid a dark and lush jungle setting. Yates also directed four of the Harry Potter movies, so he’s comfortable with bringing beloved literary characters to the screen in the biggest way possible.
Legend of Tarzan muscles its way into theaters on July 1, 2016.
