Cate Blanchett has some big plans for her acting career. The two-time Oscar winner has just received SAG and Golden Globe nominations, well earned through her performance in Carol, and now she has her eyes on a new prize. The… Marvel Universe? The decision may not seem so out of character when you account for her portrayal of Galadriel in Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, but signing on to any MCU film will catapult her right back into the blockbuster limelight that Blanchett has be flying under the radar of as of late.According to Variety, talks are being had about Blanchett joining the cast of 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Nothing about what character she’ll be playing has been revealed, other than it’s one of the female leads. The film, directed by Taika Waiti, is third in the Thor franchise, and will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Mark Ruffalo will be featured as well, as Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk.
The plot details for this movie are close to non-existent, besides that it’s rumored to revolve around the Norse version of the Apocalypse. While it hasn’t been distinguished how a Norse Apocalypse might be different from a regular ol’ Apocalypse, it most likely involves some Thor & Co. versus the end of (his? our?) world.
But back to Blanchett- what role would be suitable for such award-winning royalty? Al Pacino has said he wants in to the MCU as well. Could comics be becoming… trendy!?
Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3rd, 2017.
