There will be a number of firsts when Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in less than week’s time. One of the biggest new additions to the Star Wars tool kit though has to be IMAX, and like a lot of blockbuster movies, portions of the new film were shot in premium film format. Star Wars has always been at the forefront of movie technology, but this is one area where they seem to be playing catch-up. Can you imagine anything more awesome than Star Wars in IMAX though? Well, to get you excited, here’s an all new featurette about the IMAXification of the galaxy far, far away.
Featuring director J.J. Abrams and stars Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie and Adam Driver, the video highlights how the world (and worlds) of Star Wars will be enhanced. As to how Star Wars will be made better in IMAX, Abrams had something to say about that…
“That feeling of going to the movies and having a fully immersive, powerful, high-quality presentation of the film is something that is more valuable than ever and I think IMAX stands for that. When you go to see a movie in that format you know you are going to get something that is the best version of going out to the movies.”
Shall we go to the videotape?
Just five more sleeps till our first chance to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Preview screenings begin on Thursday December 17; the movie opens wide on Friday.
