What could make the retro 1970s and 80s vibe of Guardians of the Galaxy even better? The casting rumor that Kurt Russell could become Chris Pratt’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, set to begin production in February. Russell has been identified as director James Gunn’s top pick for the role, even though the veteran action hero hasn’t yet read the script.
Russell has become a hot property lately, returning to the screen in Furious 7, the Western horror Bone Tomahawk and Quentin Tarentino‘s upcoming release The Hateful Eight. He will also make an appearance in the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise.
If he did play the elder Quill, Gunn has already made clear that Star-Lord’s father wouldn’t be the same character as depicted in the comic books. He’s also dismissed rumors that the character could be Captain Marvel, and stated he would no longer address any further gossip about the movie, according to Entertainment Weekly.
As originally reported by TheWrap, Marvel Studios has not yet officially offered the role to Russell, but initial meetings could roll soon. Let’s hope this rumor pans out. Snake Plissken becoming Star-Lord’s Papa could make everyone’s nerdy dreams come true.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to open on May 5, 2017.
