It’s an interesting fact that when it comes to some of these movies with huge fan interest that sometimes the big news about them is broken in unusual ways. Take, for instance, this news about Suicide Squad. The movie based on the DC Comics‘ property opens next summer, and while we know the characters and the basic concept behind the film, we now have something more specific offered in terms of a plot synopsis and its all thanks to an announcement about statues. DC Collectibles today announced what four Squad statues, and who they’re being designed by, will be available next year, but bigger than that, this is what the movie is going to be about.
It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Well it wouldn’t be a movie about super-villains teaming up without a double cross, but who is this “enigmatic, insuperable entity” that the Squad has been called upon to defeat? In a movie full of villains, who is the real villain? It’s a catch-22 inside a riddle and smothered in secret sauce. So it seems that the film will be about how Waller (Viola Davis) puts together the Squad for a mission, leaves them to their own fate, and forces the Squad members to decide if they’re going to fight together, or die alone.
Oh yeah, you might be interested in the main point of this news, the four 12-inch statues announced. They will based on the likenesses of Will Smith‘s Deadshot, Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje‘s Killer Croc, and Jared Leto’s Joker. Adam Ross will design Deadshot, Alterton will do Killer Croc, and James Marsano will be responsible for both Harley Quinn and the Joker. No images of the statues are available, but DC says they will be coming soon. Stay tuned.
Suicide Squad will be in theaters everywhere next summer.
