There are some things in life where you are in one camp or the other, and never the twain shall meet: church and state, Coke and Pepsi, Star Wars and Star Trek, and Marvel and DC. So what was Arrow star Stephen Amell thinking when he was recently asked if he’d be open to playing a character in a Marvel Studios movie, and the Green Arrow portrayer said that he would. It seems that in Amell’s estimation, at lease to far as superheroes are concerned, one universe is not enough.

While answering fan questions on Facebook, Amell was was asked if he might be interested in ‘crossing the floor’ and joining the Avengers, or the Guardians of the Galaxy, or play some other Marvel character. “Sure, why not?,” he said in a laid back way. “I’m up for roles — movie roles — although I’ve never really read Marvel Comics and I was always a DC guy even before I was a DC guy. But it’s not like if I got offered an awesome Marvel superhero, I’d be like ‘No, I can’t.'”

Of course not. And wouldn’t it be a weird twist if after Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment refusing to entertain the idea of Amell’s Green Arrow appearing in the Justice League movie that Amell should make the transition to Marvel superhero. But who would he play? Maybe he can be Black Knight, or Swordsman? Moon Knight is still available. There’s some good options out there.

In the meantime, Amell still has Arrow, presently in its fourth season. According to Amell though, and this may be the first time I’ve heard this, Arrow could wrap up at the end of next season, even if it likely will not. “We were always built to be a five year show, which is a very courageous thing to plan for when you’re just in the pilot stages of something,” he explained. “But that doesn’t mean that we can’t go six or seven [seasons]. I can’t really picture beyond that. But we’ll see. I’m having a blast.”

Hi.

Arrow is presently one of the most popular shows on the CW, and the mothership for the whole interconnected DCTV Universe that now includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and the animated Vixen on CW Seed. Arrow isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In the meantime, Amell will play another superhero of a sorts, taking on the role of Casey Jones in next summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel Out of the Shadows.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on the CW.
