Granted, it’s Star Wars day and you, like millions of others, will be making your way to a theater near you at some point today to see The Force Awakens, but let’s not forget that there are other space movie franchises out there. To wit, we have a new piece of casting news from
Prometheus 2 Alien: Paradise Lost Alien: Covenant. Ridley Scott‘s looking to move quickly on making this his next project, and there’s already a release date in place for 2017, so he better start filling that spaceship with new, fresh faces… That will be hugged! And so it’s begun with Inherent Vice actress Katherine Waterston.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Waterston has signed on to join Alien for an unspecified role, but she will likely be playing a member of “a space crew facing the deadly chest-bursting, acid blood-spewing creatures.” The only other cast member revealed to be in the film is Michael Fassbender, who will reprise the role of David, the android crew member of Prometheus who was only one of two survivors from the previous movie. The fate of Noomi Rapace‘s Shaw is unknown, but perhaps that’s a spoiler being saved for the film.
Evidently, Waterston won out over Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson for the part, which, in a way, makes sense because Waterston’s last role was opposite Fassbender in Steve Jobs. Perhaps he leveraged some influence with Scott to give Waterson a proverbial leg up. That still leaves the big question: a leg up into what? Will Covenant be an Alien prequel? A Prometheus sequel? Something in between? None of the above? Whatever is going on in the film, it’s expected to start shooting in Australia sometime early in the new year.
Alien: Paradise Lost is scheduled to open in theaters everywhere October 6th, 2017.
