Star Wars The Force Awakens has barely made it out of the weekend, and conversations about episode VIII have already begun. To tell you the truth, they actually started even before The Force Awakens was in theaters, but now they’re really revving their engines. This little piece of news comes from the London premiere of the film. However, before you keep reading, take this moment to stop and think. There will be spoilers for The Force Awakens contained in this article. This is your only and final warning. So, if you’re ready, then keep reading on!
From Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, she has confirmed that most of the cast from episode VII will return for the next installment of Star Wars.
“There will be a handful of new cast members in Episode VIII but also all the cast members you see here tonight will be in it as well.”
The cast members she was referring to were Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Max von Sydow, and Adam Driver. Some of these names are self explanatory, but others bring up some questions. First of all, it looks like Maz does make it out from the rubble. Second, fans are going to find out more about Max von Sydow’s character. In case you don’t remember, he was the man that Poe was talking to in the tent from the beginning of the movie. He referred to General Organa as “royalty.”
Obviously, the biggest return will be Harrison Ford. If you recall, Ford originally wanted Han Solo to die in Return Of The Jedi but never got that wish. Well, it finally came true in The Force Awakens. Now the question is in what form with Ford return to the franchise? Will we see a blue ghost visiting Rey in the future? Or maybe we’ll get some back story to the family problems that Han, Leia, and Kylo went through to end up where they are in the story.
Either way it’ll be nice to have Ford involved in the movie in some way. It just wouldn’t feel the same without him.
Another great return will be Captain Phasma. When we last saw her, the “most elite” storm trooper in the galaxy had been easily captured and thrown into a garbage shoot. Needless to say, some were quite disappointed in her role in the scheme of things. Hopefully, more will come of her in the next movie. Maybe she’ll put up more of a fight this time.
