Kurt Russell confirmed he’s been contacted by James Gunn for the role of Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. On the Monday edition of the Happy Sad Confused Wolfpop podcast, Russell admitted he received a phone call just a few days ago from Gunn asking if he would take the part. Russell admitted that before he could consider it, he would need to do a couple of things first.
“I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know anything about it. I’m one of the four idiots that’s never seen it,” he said. Before he seriously considers the role, he wants to watch Guardians of the Galaxy and read the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
“It could be a one line thing for all I know,” he said. “But yeah, we’re talking about it.”
He said that he had heard the original movie was fun with great characters, but was unaware Gunn had written and directed it.
“I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can’t bring anything for you. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”
At least Russell is confirming that the rumor reported by TheWrap last week that Gunn had Russell in his sights for the part. Perhaps after he’s jammed out to Awesome Mix #1 a few times, he’ll be ready to say yes.
