The Force is strong at the box office as Star Wars: The Force Awakens plows through yet another record on it’s way to becoming one of the biggest movies of all time. After breaking biggest opening weekend, Star Wars set its sights on a bigger prize and managed break the record for the fastest film to reach 1 Billion in ticket sales. Over the holiday weekend, The Force Awakens is estimated to pull in $153.5 million domestically and $133.3 million overseas, bumping the total to around $1.09 billion after just 12 days. The numbers are enough to make the movie’s second weekend bigger than all but nine of the biggest opening weekends of all-time. How crazy is that?
And to top it all off Star Wars also broke the record for ticket sales on Christmas day as well. Its still too early to tell if The Force Awakens will catch Titanic or Avatar yet, but the momentum is there. It will certainly be the race to watch this holiday season in terms of the box office, but was anybody really surprised by this? Tell us what you think, will Disney get their hands on that Unobtanium, or will it drop the ball?
