Following up on the first official image of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange released earlier today, now’s the time for your first at another highly-anticipated upcoming adaptation featuring a beloved and talented dramatic actor in a high-profile film meant to launch a profitable new franchise. In this case, it’s Michael Fassbender in the upcoming adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, based on the popular Ubisoft game. This attempt will once again try to turn a lucrative video game series into a lucrative movie series, and while the below official image doesn’t reveal much about the action being made for the film, Fassbender still looks as bad ass intense as always.
As part of Entertainment Weekly‘s look ahead issue, they have a look ahead to the film from Fassbender’s Macbeth director Justin Kurzel, and here it is.
Pretty insightful, huh? Well, luckily, it also comes with commentary from Fassbender himself, who notes that while this may not be his most dramatically trying role, that doesn’t mean he’s not giving 100 per cent to give Assassin’s Creed fans what they want.
“I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character,” Fassbender said. “We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun element. We’re working hard to make this something special.”
How hard? “A lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour,” he added. “Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting.”
Assassin’s Creed, which also reunites Fassbender with his Lady Macbeth Marion Cotillard, will be in theaters everywhere on December 21, 2016.
