The post-credits scene or tag has become a staple of the comic book film since Nick Fury appeared at the very end of the first Iron Man to tell Tony Stark about a little thing called “the Avengers Initiative.” What began as a way to outwit fans who were expecting a Samuel L. Jackson cameo after it leaked in advance of Iron Man’s release has become a signature of Marvel Studios films, but not necessarily for films merely made in association with Marvel, like the X-Men films at 20th Century Fox. Having said that, with audiences now getting pre-release screenings of Deadpool, we now must ask the question: is there a post-credits scene at the end of Deadpool?
The answer, is yes. ComicBook.com confirmed it via fans who were able to see an early screening of Deadpool at theaters around the country yesterday afternoon. What’s in that scene? ComicBook.com isn’t saying, which is a move that’s appreciated. (Chances are though that if you absolutely, positively have to learn right now what it is, you can probably find out.) With X-Men: Apocalypse coming out just three months later, chances are it might be a tease, scene, or hint about what might be coming up in that movie.
Post-credits scenes haven’t been universal with X-Men movies, but they are common, especially with the last couple of films; The Wolverine had the airport scene with Professor X and Magneto, and X-Men: Days of Future Past had the scene of Apocalypse in Ancient Egypt. There are two other X-Men post-credits scenes worth mentioning, including two made just for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and one for X-Men: Last Stand that had a scene where Professor X cheats death by waking up in another guy’s body. Long story short, sit through the credits at the end of Deadpool for a bonus scene.
Deadpool is in theaters everywhere on February 12.
