After finding out that Cate Blanchett would be joining the Marvel Universe via a lead female role in Thor: Ragnarok, there was much speculation on which character the multi award winning actress might be portraying. Mark Ruffalo spilled the beans that Blanchett would be playing a baddie, and now that we know which one, we don’t envy the work Thor and Hulk have cut out for themselves! As predicted by Mark over here at NerdBastards, Blanchett will allegedly be playing Hela, who rules Hel: the realm of the dead. The comics present Hela as Loki’s daughter, but it’s unknown as to whether they’ll stick to that story line in the film. Hela is rumored to be working in cahoots with Loki, possibly destroying Mjolnir and setting Thor on a journey to find a way (or weapon?) to send Hela back to Hel and save the rest of the world from whatever diabolical scheme she and Loki have no doubt concocted.
Another telling comment made by Ruffalo comparing the film to Midnight Run suggests that this “weapon” may actually be a person- but we’ll have to wait until Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017 to know for sure! There are 2 more Marvel movies coming out before then, so we may have more hints and leaked info to go by; possibly courtesy of Ruffalo’s loose lips!
