Watch the New ‘Warcraft’ TV Spot!

There have been so many failed attempts to adapt video games into movies (Super Mario Bros.Street FighterPrince of Persia), that any new venture is immediately met with doubt and skepticism, and rightfully so. That being said, the upcoming film Warcraft has the potential to be pretty good. Although the premise of two warring factions coming together to cooperate for the greater good may not be the most original idea this movie season, this film has at least one very big thing going for it. The director, Duncan Jones, is the man who brought us the movies Moon and Source Code, which were both very capable, entertaining sci-fi movies. Interesting side note: Jones is also the son of famous musician David Bowie. Check out the new TV spot for the movies below!

Warcraft is based on the incredibly popular MMO World of Warcraft, which has become notorious for the occasional horror stories of users becoming addicted and completely disconnecting from reality. The movie stars Travis Fimmel as human knight Sir Anduin Lothar and Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four) as orc chieftan Durotan. It also stars Ben Foster, who makes it a point to be great even in movies that aren’t like The Punisher and X-Men: The Last Stand, and Dominic Cooper, who is undoubtedly best known as Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter.

The story takes place in the world of Azeroth and focuses on Durotan and Sir Anduin Lothar attempting to find peace even as their respective groups are rallying to war. So perhaps it’s less like Captain America: Civil War or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and more like Pocahontas. Although, thinking of some orc on human love is decidedly more disturbing than the movie Pocahontas. On the other hand, some orc on human love is definitely less disturbing than the real life Pocahontas.

The fantasy epic opens on June 10 and if nothing else promises stunning visual effects from the actual wizards over at Industrial Light & Magic.
