Did you know that Kevin Smith is a Star Wars fan? It’s true, watch his movies. From the first of a litany of Star Wars jokes and conversation in Clerks, you knew that you were in the presence of a mega-fan. It should come as no surprise then that Smith would lend himself to a new Star Wars project. Like so many others, we had a role in the recently released Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and like so many other Star Wars information, the exact details of Smith’s role have remained a secret…. Until now. What part did Smith play? Let’s just say he was a faceless cog in the machine.
As confirmed by Lucasfilm, via ComicBook.com, Smith played, a Stormtrooper. But not just any Stormtrooper! No, Smith was one of the Stormtroopers that attacked Maz Kanata’s cantina. He said the immoral line, “We have incoming at 28.6! Move!” It’s not exactly “To be, or not to be,” but it’s one more line in Star Wars than you’ve ever had. Yes, the role was a voiceover role, and probably one that didn’t tax Smith’s time or acting ability, but on the other hand, he’s a very busy man and was unlikely to fit in a Stormtrooper suit of armor.
Of course, Smith isn’t alone as a celebrity Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, it was previously revealed that James Bond Daniel Craig appeared as the Stormtrooper guarding Rey (Daisy Ridley) who she then Jedi mind tricks into letter her escape. Apparently, if you’re a celebrity and you’re not a friend of J.J. Abrams, you’re going to be given a white helmet and a laser blaster. Not that they would complain of course.
Seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Good, go see it again! It’s still in theaters.
