It seems like a long way off, May 2017, but in production terms it’s coming up faster than you might expect. That’s why it should come as no surprise that James Gunn has assembled the Guardians already to rehearse Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Much of Marvel‘s focus this year is going to be on Doctor Strange and, much more immediately, Captain America: Civil War, but GOTG Vol. 2 will be one of the most hotly anticipated movies of 2017 after the original defied any and all expectations in 2014. For now though, these space heroes are just a company of actors hamming it up for a couple of behind the scenes shots the director has posted on Facebook.
In a pair of images, cast members from the original Guardians of the Galaxy are shown clowning around as they rehearse the script for part two, which should start production sometime in the immediate future. In the first image Gunn, Chis Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and the director’s brother Sean Gunn (once again doing the mo-cap for Rocket Racoon) are all reacting to Dave Bautista who, from the looks of it, is dropping a little Shakespeare. Of course, Bautista was the standout from the first Guardians, so would it surprise anyone if he were to quote a little Hamlet?
Meanwhile, Michael Rooker was lurking nearby. Rooker, who plays Ravager captain Yondu is so far the only other member of the original cast, aside from the Guardians themselves, confirmed to be returning for Volume 2, but if rehearsals are currently underway, can a full casting announcement be too far behind?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters everywhere on May 5, 2017.
