O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Fans of Tim Burton‘s 2010 film Alice in Wonderland should be chortling in their joy at all the news coming about the sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass. Based off of Lewis Carroll‘s Through the Looking-Glass, which was itself a sequel to his earlier Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass promises to deliver even more madcap antics and zany characters than its predecessor. Returning for more adventures in Wonderland are Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, and Alan Rickman, in what would prove to be his final role. Watch now below as Walt Disney Pictures has just released a new TV spot for the film!
As you can see, the Mad Hatter is back, as is the Red Queen. However, as you can tell from the voiceover, a more insidious villain awaits Alice. This new villain is Time and is played by the endlessly entertaining Sacha Baron Cohen of Da Ali G Show, Borat, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Madagascar fame. Other newcomers to this franchise include Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and The Amazing Spider-Man) and Toby Jones (the Captain America movies, Doctor Who, The Hunger Games, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets). With Tim Burton merely taking a producing role, a new director is on board, as well. This will be director James Bobin‘s first film since reinvigorating the Muppets franchise with 2011’s The Muppets and 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted.
You can join Alice as she travels through time to save the Mad Hatter from his father, Time, starting on May 27, when the film hits theaters.
