Word is making the Internet rounds that Seth Rogan‘s Preacher adaptation on AMC is adding Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Robocop) to the mix as one of the recurring series villains, Odin Quincannon (pictured above). Based on the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon DC Vertigo series of the same name, this television adaptation is shaping up quite nicely.
Fans have already been warned that the series on television will not be a direct copy of the comics, but it looks like the character of Odin Quincannon will be pretty damn close. Here’s what AMC is saying about the character who will appear in six to ten of the first season’s episodes:
…a small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business.
There’s a lot to not like about the character and this NerdBastard can’t wait to see what Haley will bring to it. Haley is great at playing the villain, heck even when he plays a hero like Rorschach in Watchmen one can’t help but be more than a little disturbed, when he brings out the full-on-villain you can’t take your eyes off him.
When Quincannon starts to lose his control over the town, he decides that if he can’t have it, no one can. That’s when the real fun begins. This is a great bit of casting, Haley can kill it with the right characters. If you’ve never seen Little Children, check it out. Haley steals that movie even though his character is disturbing and practically unlikable.
Preacher is slated to premiere on AMC sometime later this year.
