Captain America: Civil War is receiving the finishing touches, and Doctor Strange is in the can with post-production underway for its fall release. So what comes next? Think raccoon with a ray gun, a talking tree that says the same damn thing, a space pirate with swagger, and a starship named after the 80s TV pin-up idol that played the daughter on Who’s the Boss? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 doesn’t open till way next summer – as in 2017 – but the camera’s are rolling for the highly anticipated next chapter for Marvel Studios‘ space-faring rogue group of heroes.
Production was announced via a studio press release – Just kidding! Writer/director James Gunn posted this to Instagram.
Simple, but effective. You’ll note that the logo’s updated from the more improvised variation that’s been making the rounds since 2014 San Diego Comic Con, but stylistically it still says, “I can’t believe this was so popular they ordered a volume two.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 began principal photography yesterday, but still not a lot in known about it. Confirmed for a comeback are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, along with Michael Rooker as Yondu. Pom Klementieff is joining the cast as Mantis, as is Steve Agee in an unknown role. We’re still waiting to learn who will play Star-Lord’s father in the movie, although its widely expected to be Kurt Russell, and we don’t know who the main villain’s going to be in the movie although we’ve heard that Thanos and the Infinity Stones are definitely out.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters everywhere on May 5, 2017.
