Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny the sequel to the original award-winning film returns to Netflix. The sequel is loosely connected to the film due to its focus on Michelle Yeoh‘s character Yu Shu Lien. The plot, at this point, looks entirely standalone, but promises another eye-dazzling, high-flying, fantasy-tinged martial arts epic set in the same world as the first film. Check out the trailer for the film below.
Even though Ang Lee is directing the sequel, acclaimed martial arts choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping (whose credits include big films like The Matrix and Kill Bill) is set to direct the Netflix feature film.
While Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will definitely be a feast for the eyes and its fight scenes will be spectacular, the big question is whether he has the same knack for storytelling as Lee did.
The synopsis for the film, is as follows:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny tells an epic story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption, set against breathtaking action in an epic martial arts battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of the Martial World.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will release on Netflix and at select IMAX screens, February 26, 2016. Take note, that this release is also going to be Netflix’s first foray into making a stand for its original creations in physical theaters.
