The pow-wow between Earth’s two mightiest heroes has been a point of contention and a source of endless hype ever since it was teased 3 years ago. However, with the cinematic DC Universe finally making its way to the silver screen, some fans decide to go the extra mile and look for facts by analyzing any and all hints provided by the trailers, leading to a pretty solid possible outline…
[ABSTRACT SPOILER WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS POSSIBLE BATMAN V SUPERMAN PLOT POINTS]
YouTube user M1llion’s recently uploaded a Dawn Of Justice supercut video, containing all the footage from the movie teasers and trailers released so far. The one embedded on this post is currently version 3, with a current runtime of 9:49 seconds. For those of you without the patience or the time at work to sneak a look into it, the video pretty much condenses all the footage from the trailers in an order which M1llion believes that the movie will follow as closely as possible.
From Superman‘s (Hanry Cavill) catastrophic battle with Kryptonian Nazi General Zod to Batman‘s (Ben Affleck) new origin story to the rise of the personality cult of the Last Son Of Krypton and Wonder Woman‘s (Gal Gadot) explosive first appearance, the video is everything you would expect, which has led to the following plot speculation:
“Following his titanic struggle against General Zod, Metropolis has been razed to the ground and Superman is the most controversial figure in the world. While for many he is still an emblem of hope, a growing number of people consider him a threat to humanity, seeking justice for the chaos he has brought to Earth.
“As far as Bruce Wayne is concerned, Superman is clearly a danger to society. He fears for the future of the world with such a reckless power left ungoverned, and so he dons his mask and cape to right Superman’s wrongs. The rivalry between them is furious, fueled by bitterness and vengeance, and nothing can dissuade them from waging this war. However, a dark new threat arises in the form of a third man: one who has a power greater than either of them to endanger the world and cause total destruction.”
Alright, so this plot doesn’t sound too far from what we’ve come to expect from half a century’s worth of comic books: the usual crossover, epic rivalry and the appearance of a brand new challenger that will force the heroes to bury the hatchet so they can rescue mankind from a fear greater threat. What’s interesting is that Zack Snyder is apparently taking a page off the Dark Knight Returns, with Superman and Batman both acting as moral authorities and seemingly beyond human law. After all, the disaster that they cause (and the greater destruction they prevent) might make for a great plot point: will the Justice League simply be a benign gathering of super-humans or a more cynical means for them to keep themselves in check? If DC has decided they want to address a more adult audience than the Marvel crowd, then perhaps this would sound like a better place to start.
After all, Superman was the one who misjudged his enemies and caused widespread disaster while trying to save the planet, leading to the birth of Batman and possibly to the appearance of Wonder Woman in the first place. Then again, maybe we are spreading ourselves too thin as it is: the movie has already caused concern among eager nerds despite its 2 hour and 31 minute runtime, who fear that perhaps the sheer volume of content and subplots will cause it to become a giant, convoluted mess. We guess we’ll find out for ourselves, come March 20th this year.
