‘Zombieland 2’ Is Still Alive And Kicking…Barely

As it turns out, Zombieland 2 is still a thing over at Sony studios. At least for now it is. In 2009, the low budget film made it’s debut in theaters and surprised everyone when it proved to be a hit grossing over $100 million at the box office. Then several years later, a series was created in an attempt to continue the story of Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock. But that didn’t go over so well, and the series ended up being cancelled. So while many thought the idea was dead, it turns out that it’s quite the opposite, and Zombieland 2 might still happen.

Now, before you get your hopes up, be aware that it’s not completely set it stone (but nothing ever is in Hollywood). The last time any news about Zombieland came out was in 2014 when word came out that the sequel was in active development. Since then, there hasn’t been anything. That is until Rhett Reese (Deadpool) revealed that the movie is still alive during a Q&A Podcast.

“It’s actually still in development over at Sony, they’ve had a couple writers take a crack at it, we’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can and, yeah, I think there’s still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right, I think all the actors and [original ‘Zombieland’ director] Reuben [Fleischer] all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right.”

It always comes down to “everything has to be just right.” It’s a phrase that’s been said time and time again, and whenever you hear it, all you can do is sigh, lean back, and watch the show…as nothing happens. But if Reese says it’s still happening, then all fans can do is believe him and wait to see what happens next. However, it seems that time might be running out. When Zombieland first premiered in theaters, the actors were still relatively unknown with the exception of Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone hadn’t done much until then. Now one is set to be in one of the biggest comic book blockbusters and the other is an Oscar nominated actress. Needless to say, they’re going to be busy.

Keep your fingers crossed, everyone. Let’s hope this can get done.
